What is Zimbra Mailbox?

When a user creates an account in Zimbra, it automatically creates a separate mailbox for each user account that contains all the emails, contacts, calendar items, notes, tasks etc.

 

Why Shifting from Zimbra to Outlook is needed?

Despite a full-featured email client, Zimbra is losing its market share because users are bestowed with better options and opportunities. The responsive time of Zimbra is matter of concern among users, both corporate and end users. Also, requirement for registration for Zimbra account and slow synchronization are other issues, users have to face.

 

Considering all these weaknesses, users now are moving towards more reliable program, i.e., MS Outlook, an office program that lets users manage their emails, contacts, calendars etc in single program. But only Outlook installation, doesn’t work; all the Zimbra mailboxes of user accounts needs to be converted too.

 

Is Exporting from Zimbra Mailbox to Outlook Possible?

When we export Zimbra mailboxes using import/export option, a .tgz file is created. We all know that Outlook saves all its emails, contacts, calendars etc. in single PST file and does not show any option to import Zimbra files while importing using import/export option. Therefore, direct importing and exporting of Zimbra Mailboxes to Outlook is not possible.

 

Is there Any Other Way to Export Zimbra to Outlook?

First Step:
The first step involves extracting .TGZ file from Zimbra Desktop

  • Go to Preferences Tab and select Import/Export option
  • Check Advanced Settings to further select the options from emails, address book, tasks, calendars, briefcase etc, highlighted under “Data Types” section
  • Click Export Button, browse for the location for saving the TGZ file and Click OK button.

Second Step:
Unzip the zipped TGZ File using Winzip or WinRAR.
 
Third Step:
Once you have the TGZ files, start with the Zimbra Mailbox to Outlook Conversion:

  • Download and Install Zimbra Converter
  • Select the TGZ file(s), using any of the two options :
    – Single Mailbox, for single user account.
    – Multiple Mailbox, for multiple user accounts. Note: Software will create single PST for each mailbox.
  • Click Start Migration Button have your Zimbra Mailboxes converted to Outlook PST file.

Fourth Step: Open PST File in MS Outlook

  • Open Outlook
  • In File Menu, go to Open and Export >> Open Data File
  • Browse the location where the converted PST file is saved and click Open button. Note : repeat the process to import each PST file
  • Click on All Folders Option to see the Zimbra Mailbox.
