Design and Display

Like all the Nokia devices, the Nokia 7.1 device is really nicely built and looks premium in hands too. Unlike all other brands, this device is a standout and looks best out of them. The black panel is glass sandwich construction with side framing of 6000-series aluminum. The back panel includes a vertical dual camera setup with ZEISS branding and a fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader is at the perfect place and is easy to reach. Moreover, the back panel gets Nokia branding at the back.

On the right, the phone packs a power button and volume rockers while on the left, it has the dual-SIM/microSD card tray. On the top, the device houses a 3.5mm headphone jack and the USB Type-C port and mono speaker get their place on the bottom railing.

Coming to the display, Nokia 7.1 packs a 5.84-inch full-HD+ display which is Nokia’s pure display technology one. With the resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, the Nokia 7.1 gets a notch on the front and has minimal side bezels. Talking about the display, the colors are bright and vibrant plus you get an exceptional experience while watching HD movies or playing games.

All said, Nokia 7.1 is one such a piece whose build and display quality is unmatched in the mid-range smartphone market.

Performance

Under the hood, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded up to 400GB using microSD card. At the price of around twenty grand, it might seem odd when it comes to the processor but the software management is so good that you don’t feel any lags or hiccups during the work. The device works well, smooth and sound. The tasks are easily done but it often starts to lag in multitasking and in high-end work. Gaming sessions are quite decent in the medium graphics in both Asphalt 9 and PUBG- thanks to the neat and clean software.

Camera and Battery Life

Nokia 7.1 houses a dual vertical ZEISS rear camera setup including a 12-megapixel (f/1.8) primary camera and a 5-megapixel (f/2.4) secondary camera. For the selfies, it offers an 8-megapixel front shooter. Images from the rear camera come out crisp and solid. Moreover, the Portrait Mode gives nice images- thanks to the exceptional edge detection technology. The selfie camera also captures nice shots in good lighting. Though noise irritates a lot in the low lighting situations, still the detailing and aesthetics are decent.

Coming to the battery life, the device packs a 3,060mAh battery. It can give you 12-13 hours of a day in heavy use with some fuel left around 10-15 percent. The battery life is average but solid as it doesn’t create problems in traveling. With Adaptive Battery feature in this stock Android device, you can limit the battery use too. The device supports fast charging and fuels the device to full tank in about 90 minutes.

Other Features

Out of the box, Nokia 7.1 runs Android Pie and is an Android One device. This Nokia product also supports face recognization with its 8MP front camera. Connectivity options and sensors include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB Type-C, FM, Face unlock, Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, and Gyroscope. In the box, you will get an 18W charger, USB Type-C cable, Quick guide, SIM door key, and the Headset. Verdict

At the price point of Rs. 19,900, Nokia 7.1 straightly compete with Honor’s Play and Poco F1. Though the device doesn’t offer much on paper, but Nokia 7.1 offers a lot more in the real-time scenario. This is what makes this device a perfect all-rounder with a lot more offerings than the processor.
The display and design are the main USP of Nokia 7.1 and in this range, you won’t get such a piece in this price range. Not only this, the software is well managed and optimized which makes this phone run smooth and sound. The cameras are also good performers but in low-lighting, it struggles a bit. Its competitor Poco F1 might bring high-end features on the table, but if you are looking for a premium build and all-around performance, Nokia 7.1 is the one for you.
